Seasons and Sands
04:21
|
|||
Lie in the ages of fire
When falling to be sky
And rising to be ground
The safety below
The weakness composed
I’ve seen that tale within
And all throughout the way home
And I know that there’s another way that you’ll divide and fill out farther
Give it to yourself in me
These are my hands around your days that we’ll unfold
And the gaze that I’ll behold with another eye
Then we denied it with our reasons and plans
We never took the way we know
We never saw the sun before us
So we did write it in our seasons and sands
So when we start again, we can see the sun before us
I burned the gate where it stands
To drip into the dirt
And spill into the soil
The red molten iron
It leaks down the land
And though all now can pass
The wildflowers don’t grow
And I know that there’s another way that you’ll divide and fill out farther
Give it to yourself in me
These are my hands around your days that we’ll unfold
And the gaze that I’ll behold with another eye
Then we denied it with our reasons and plans
We never took the way we know
We never saw the sun before us
So we did write it in our seasons and sands
So when we start again, we can see the sun before us

Room Remains
04:03
|
|||
So let the twilight trickle in
Let the grass grow tall and thin
I’ll fill my glass not with bitter poison, for it shrouds doubt upon the toast, and lift my glass
Lift up my glass to years filled with a peace I’ve never known
And I’m afraid to live another life
To endure again the untethered misery of an infancy often spent in sickness
Coughing into the wall under the stars above my cloudy ceiling
Staggering with arms outstretched and grasping for the breath, inches behind it as it floats just out of reach
Crying out for mercy in desperation, finally whisked away beneath the grand lungs whose alveoli radiate to the sky
Steadied by my mother, for a time
Held close and warm while liquid winter air floods in and soothes my tattered airways
My first memory of this earth
So let the twilight trickle in
Let the grass grow tall and thin
I’ll fill my glass not with bitter poison, for it shrouds doubt upon the toast, and lift my glass
Lift up my glass to years filled with a peace that I have never known
Looking out over yards
In which kids jump on trampolines
Some here atop the hill
Others there between the trees
In midair, they look the same
Their world burns out
Their world burns out of me slowly
Still smoldering softly
I hear that nothing changes, it simply dissipates
I pray that‘s not the case
I hope that room remains
If not for the return of that seething novelty of youth, for something not yet seen
I hope room remains

Evening Star
04:00
|
|||
Peer in your land
I will be wading in
All alone another evening
It's a place in hell
And maybe they'll be waiting up
But no one'll help you fly
Maybe they'll be waiting up
Forever after you
Maybe they're stronger in the summer
To the evening star
All of the dreams that you're making out and the ones that you believe
You'll be one long division problem so remember
You'll be one long division problem so keep in mind
You'll wait
You'll be one lone string of code in the scroll of life
You began to possess my madness so I never made your impossible trade
To begin, I'll be drawn along the way
Though many suffer out
The faces you go
The people are waiting for the glimmer to glow
In yourself arises an easier way
The flicker is so unbelievably slow to die

A Return to Leaving
02:38
|
|||
Just as my voice cracks back into existence
Shudders into form
An apple on a time lapse
Whose orchard it supports
And now is finally as before, when it would strike me
When streetlights casted circles in dead trees
That made cartoons in the sky
While the houses told me, “Well I’d sure like to greet you! Come inside!”
Each with a face of their own
I see these visions in the night
When brought outside by the tension from within
And it’s that push and pull that has me swaying on the sidewalk
A mannequin magnet
Repelled by, and yet drawn down into the mire of perpetual awayness
So comfortable and soft inside
How wonderful to leave sometimes
And go far enough outside that the tension chafes just sweet enough to create sparks of wonder
And what an absurdity to expect this voice to deliver
When it doesn’t know how it came to be here
And knows far less of how it came to be what it was, back there
When it sang what you needed

Charging to Sundown
04:07
|
|||
While we rise
We got to making a disguise
While we lit another light, hoping to pervade us
Momma never made us to breathe fire
But we keep it up so the night dies
We gotta shade us from that thought again
To take the place
Downward climb
Taking whatever we can find
Through the tangled roots and grime, hoping to pervade us
Drop it at the core now and take flight
On the surface we look for the signs
And yellow grass turns to green life again
And with either way
The time you take
Will take the place
Of everyone
My hands they were shaking
I believe in you in my blood
I'll be at your side
All the ways that we’re nothing and we gotta tread the water
Take me in your tide
Feeling is over
Places above
Charging to sundown
Stable enough to go home and believe in my thoughts
My thoughts in turn will believe in something else
So get up and be the one inside
Take me over the river
Break me off in your story
Hold my light in the bad times
String my life on your lifeline
I believe in you, will you believe in me?

Your Real Name
04:41
|
|||
Everything's in heaven
That dew has dried
Remain calm
Airline sweeping in range
Beyond, they only barely hear you
The talk that bares the crime
The talk that bares the light
The only zone my zone divides
And rings of gold
They'll lock their hold
And wrong will roll down mountainside
On screens of us
They'll not discuss
Begin in sleep by rapid eye
We're only real tonight
We're only real tonight
I will try to see you in the palette of my mind
Into revelation with a map that isn't mine
Everything's in heaven
That dew has dried
Remain calm
Airline sweeping in range
Beyond, they only really need you
The talk that bares the crime
The talk that bares the light
The only zone my zone divides
And rings of gold
They'll lock their hold
You'll ride bad rain down mountainside
And strings of us
Will walk above
On rays whose ways we know are right
The right way is implied
The right way is implied
I will try to see you in the palette of my mind
Into revelation with a map that isn't mine
All that you say that you would wanna change
And the mistakes that you have made
They will be crushed below the serenade
Everything sings out your real name
I will try to see you in the palette of my mind (they all barely hear you)
Into revelation with a map that isn't mine (they all really need you)
And all that you say that you would wanna change
And the mistakes that you have made
They will be crushed below the serenade
Everything sings out your real name
